After USA and China, Japan at slightly over USD 5 t, is the third largest economy in the world. Its currency is Yen and is represented as Japanese Yen (JPY). Japan is also known as the Country of the Rising Sun (it is 9 hours ahead of India on GMT), Nippon, Country of Cherry Blossom. Tokyo, the capital city, with 3.8 cr people is the most populous capital city in the world. This city houses almost 30% of the nation’s population of 12.7 cr. Japan is an island country located in the Pacific Ocean. Like our script is known as Devnagari, Japanese script is known as Thekanji. Japan has 6852 islands, almost all susceptible to volcanos and earthquakes. Out of these, only four are important as these house 97% of the Japanese population. These are: Hokkaido, Kyushu, Shikoku and Honshu. It is a constitutional monarchy with the King being the symbolic head of the country. Currently Akihito is the king. Its parliament is known as Diet (ours is known as Sansad).

Japan can be said as the world’s most technologically advanced country where quality is the only hallmark behind any produce be it automobiles, electronic equipment, electricals, infrastructure, education, healthcare, machine tools, steel, non ferrous metals, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, textile, ships, processed foods or agri-commodities. Simply speaking neither the Japanese government nor its people accept anything which is even slightly below the highest possible standards. Japanese with USD 45,000 per capita annual income are also very high in almost all possible human indexes globally. Their longevity is one of the highest globally and this country ranks very high in hygiene.

Japan is a global economic power and its international trade is the world’s fourth largest. Currently, over 1300 Japanese companies have offices in India. Friendship between India and Japan has been continuously growing. Delhi Metro is one of the most successful examples of Japanese investments in India. Maruti Suzuki, a JV had earlier brought the automobile revolution in India.
